My Musical Journey

How It All Began

My name is Zachary Harris, I am a Dj and saxophonist born and raised in the town of Pinehurst,

NC. I was raised in a very musically oriented family, which is where it all began. My father

played the trumpet for many years, and he had the opportunity to play with other Trumpeters

such as Clark Terry and Dizzy Gillespie. My mother has been a singer all her life and she spent

her time singing all throughout different Churches. My brother is a keyboardist, my sister is a

bassist and at a young age I began my music career playing drums with my family at our father’s

church. I really wanted to follow in my father’s footsteps and play the trumpet, but I had always

had a burning passion for the saxophone.

In 2017 I graduated from the Fire Academy and became a full-time firefighter. From there I

decided to save up and buy my first saxophone! I can remember the thoughts running through

my mind opening the case for the first time, I finally had the chance to get my hands on the

instrument I had been dreaming of playing! I taught myself to play by watching YouTube videos

and listening to other saxophonist such as Kirk Whalum, Gerald Albright, John Coltrane, and

many more.

Early on I realized that I wanted to heal others with my music, and not just myself. I began

performing locally, busking on sidewalks, and taking center stage at an ever-growing list of

venues including and not limited to, DiVine Lounge, Neville’s and the Jefferson Inn in Southern

Pines, NC and developed the name the “Sax Doctor”. By bringing back good music to Moore

County I wanted to channel the vision of a decades-old romance with the old school love music

feel. To reminisce about candlelit dinners where the music was so good that you couldn’t help

but get up and dance and feel the enjoyment of life and could fall back in love all over again.

My music journey hasn’t stopped there, early in 2022 I decided to expand my skillset and

knowledge in music and became a Dj; I started creating my own style in music and mixes as

“Dj Saxy”. Since then, I have traveled all over the east coast performing for all types of events,

parties, weddings, cooperate business events and much more. I strive to bring the best varieties

of genres and entertainment to any event that I get the chance to be a part of.

It’s been a long road to get where I’ve wanted to be musically. It’s been filled with amazing

experiences and challenges, but I have enjoyed and appreciated every step it took to get me

where I am today. I’ve wanted this for so long and never thought I’d have this many blessings

and opportunities with my music career come my way. With that being said, I would like to

thank all of my family and friends in my community for all of their continued support throughout

the years while I have been pursuing my dreams in music.
